Galeries Lafayette Arrives in India, We Step Inside Its First Flagship in Mumbai

Galeries Lafayette, the iconic French department store, has officially opened its first Indian flagship in Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda. Inaugurated on Oct 15, the 90,000-square-foot space stands as a new symbol of refinement in the city’s vibrant art and heritage district. Spread across two restored neoclassical buildings, the flagship brings together over 250 luxury and designer brands, giving the customers a beautiful blend of Paris and Mumbai.

Set within the historic Turner Morrison building, the store’s architecture bridges old-world grandeur with modern design. Created in collaboration with London-based studio Virgile & Partners, the interiors retain the original facades while introducing sculptural staircases, soft lighting, and elegant Art Deco motifs. And the result? A seamless blend of French elegance and Indian artistry, right under one roof.

A Curated World of Luxury

Inside, each floor unfolds as an experience rather than a department. From ready-to-wear and fine jewellery to a dedicated beauty floor and bespoke services, the curation is meticulous. Many of the brands featured are making their Indian debut, reaffirming the country’s growing importance on the global luxury map. The flagship also introduces private lounges, personal styling suites, and exclusive collaborations that reflect Galeries Lafayette’s commitment to offering a world-class retail environment.

A Cultural Landmark

Galeries Lafayette Mumbai aims to be more than just a shopping destination. It is envisioned as a cultural salon, giving a space that celebrates art, craftsmanship, and modern luxury. Visitors can expect curated exhibitions, installations, and experiences that reflect both French art de vivre and Mumbai’s vibrant creative spirit. The synergy between retail and culture is designed to inspire, not just impress.

The opening marks a defining moment for India’s luxury sector. A partnership between Galeries Lafayette and Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, the store is a confident statement of how global heritage can find harmony within Indian sensibility. With a Delhi flagship expected next, the brand’s arrival signals a shift in how luxury will be experienced, immersive, artful, and deeply personal.
